Have you ever had a time when you longed for a moment of true peace and silence? We all have. Living in New York can undoubtedly be exciting and fun, but there are times when the bustle becomes exhausting and sometimes even frustrating as it becomes difficult to find time for yourself outside of your apartment. Often when New Yorkers are looking for a moment of zen, they head north for a weekend getaway. Minutes from Kaaterskill Falls, where visitors can hike among breathtaking views and follow trails to the bottom of a waterfall, is Piaule Catskill – a landscape hotel with 24 luxurious cabins.
After an unfortunate canceled trip to enjoy the paradise of Mexico and an upcoming birthday, I needed a getaway, and fast. Piaule seemed to tick all the boxes and was very far away for me to make a last minute reservation. The secluded location is only accessible by car, but a road trip proved to be the perfect way to spend some quality time with my partner and calm our minds for the peaceful stay ahead of us.
Upon arrival, we immediately became more relaxed by the calmness of nature surrounding the site. As we make our way to the main cabin, where guests are checked in and come to relax and enjoy a free daily breakfast, we were greeted by the chirping of birds, the breeze moving through the trees and a golden sunset. The earthy tones of the décor and the natural elements incorporated into the design created a serene scene by blending seamlessly with the outdoors.
Every aspect of the site played into the calming environment – including the staff who spoke in soft, cheerful tones, almost like a whisper. After checking in, we chose to walk back to our cabins to enjoy the fresh air and explore the site a bit. The cabins are all equipped with heated floors, Wi-Fi and central cooling/heating units, but there are deliberately no televisions to encourage guests to fully indulge in the natural surroundings. All bathrooms are equipped with Piaule products such as shower gel, lotion, shampoo and conditioner.
Every element thought of inside the cabin felt like an extension of the exterior – the products smelled like a mix of pine, bergamot, sage and frankincense, just like the exterior. Each bedroom also has large sliding doors in front of the beds to provide serene views of the woods – visitors can open the doors to experience indoor/outdoor living.
Our peaceful mornings began with taking in the sounds of nature and heading for breakfast, followed by a stay at the on-site spa in Piaule. Spa features include a steam room, sauna, massage room, reading room, a variety of pools, and a fitness room. Aside from the interior aesthetic, which was so content-worthy, all of the various rooms inside also had panoramic views of the nearby woods and mountains on the horizon – breathtaking views were constant throughout. throughout the stay.
When it was time to explore the surrounding area, we perused Piaule’s list of recommendations for food and activities. On days when Piaule’s on-site restaurant was closed, there were great alternatives nearby, including Italian and Asian cuisine. When we were in the mood for adventure, we chose to explore Kaaterskill Falls to hike different trails and see the most beautiful natural waterfalls up close. At this point, our peace of mind was heightened, joy filled the air, and it was safe to say that our escape to upstate was a success.
Whether you need a moment of zen or want to spend quality, uninterrupted time with family and friends, Piaule is definitely worth discovering for yourself.
