Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard jurors ‘fell asleep’ during testimony, stenographer says

A court stenographer in the libel trial involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard claimed that the members of the jury kept falling asleep during the entire six-week proceedings.

The jury, made up of five men and two women, returned a verdict on Wednesday (June 1) in Mr Depp’s multimillion-dollar trial after just 13 hours of deliberation.

They mostly sided with the Pirates of the Caribbean star in the verdict which was announced at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia.

In a new interview with the Law and Crime Network Monday, June 6, stenographer Judy Bellinger claimed that a few jurors fell asleep at several points during the trial.

“There were a few jurors dozing around,” she said. “And it was tough. There were a lot of video depositions, and they just sat there, and all of a sudden, I saw their heads drop.

Johnny Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Amber Heard was awarded $2 million in damages.

Ms Bellinger also claimed the juror who ended up paying the most attention was “unfortunately” not involved in the final verdict.

“Unfortunately the only substitute that was there was probably the one who listened the most. I watched her facial expressions, she was very deep into every word that was said. I thought she would have done a great swore, and she couldn’t see it through,” Ms. Bellinger said.

“She was very careful.

In the same interview, Ms Bellinger also pushed back against allegations of bias after she was seen hugging Mr Depp on the final day of the proceedings.

“Johnny was in there, and so I had to go over there and get my gear, and I saw him, and they said ‘he really wants to meet you,'” Ms Bellinger said.

“I was probably in there less than 10 minutes, and he just hugged me and thanked me again. And I hugged a few other people there, and got my gear and I went out, I left and I went home.

Mr. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Ms. Heard was awarded $2 million in damages.

Judge Penney Azcarate then reduced the punitive damages to $350,000, the maximum allowed in the state of Virginia where the lawsuit took place.

Since the verdict was delivered, Mr Depp has been seen traveling and touring across the UK with Jeff Beck.

On Monday (June 6), the two, along with 20 others, racked up a huge bill at an Indian restaurant in Birmingham.

According TMZthe restaurant’s operations manager, Mohammed Hussain, said Depp’s final bill was around £50,000 ($60,000) in total.

Ms Heard plans to appeal the verdict.
