Deadpool 3 remains in development, and now writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have provided an update on the project, including some new comments regarding Disney’s influence. Speaking to The Playlist, Reese said: “We’re in the lab all the time working on it with Ryan Reynolds, and we’re having a lot of fun.”
“So hopefully that translates and ends up entertaining the world. But you know, it’s a marriage between Fox and Disney and they’re two different universes and it’s not easy,” Reese said. “But it’s also a wonderful challenge and, you know, high-class issues to be able to merge these, these worlds. So, we’re enjoying it.”
Ce sont ces [Disney] people and these people do things their own way. And we used to do things our own way, so there are differences, but I think the biggest thing is that Marvel has been incredibly supportive,” Reese said.
He said Disney would “let Deadpool be Deadpool” and that, so far, Disney had shown the Deadpool franchise “nothing but support”. The could There comes a time when Disney management says, “You know, that’s too far” on a particular joke, but it hasn’t happened yet.
“It was nothing but, ‘How can we help you?’ “What would you like to use from our universe? How, how can we make your life easier?” And we’re gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool. We’re not… it’s not going to be the Disney-fied Deadpool. So they’re awesome, and now it’s our turn to come to bout and vindicate that faith,” Reese said.
Finally, Reese said he expected Deadpool 3 to get an R rating to stay in the tradition of the series, adding that Disney would not “disrupt the tone” of the film, although he admitted that there was an “outside chance” that something might change that.
Deadpool 3 will be directed by Stranger Things veteran Shawn Levy, who also directed Reynolds in Free Guy. The first Deadpool movie, which set records for box office performance for an R-rated movie at the time, was directed by Tim Miller (Terminator: Dark Fate). The second was from John Wick co-director David Leitch.
Reese and Wernick’s latest project is the Netflix movie Spiderhead starring Chris Hemsworth, which premieres June 17.
